Australia Day Pt 2

As you can see we are a bunch of Party Animals sadly it wasn't a public holiday here so all we had was dinner with Tim tams lamingtons (cutesy of Steph recipe provided by Steph's Mum) and Jaffa muffins (Elle's secret recipe) for desert - sadly the care package from Oz failed to arrive -hopefully it IS in the post (HINT HINT Coop). So we are planning another get together when everyone doesn't have to get up at the crack of dawn (that is true in a literal sense here) the next day

Scottish Maddness

As you know we had some fairly strong winds recently and today another gale warning was issued (along with a prediction of 6" of snow overnight) but what did I see on my way to the in-laws but people playing golf now I realise that al golfers are mad after all what type of sport is it (if sport it is) that sees a grown man chasing a wee ball around a field with a club I ask you ! So it is no wonder that advocates of this "sport" were out in the wind and snow when all sane people were away home..

As most know I have been here a little while now and every now and then the little things remind you just how far from home I am. Some examples of this are after a big night out instead of having a hot dog or pie then heading home people test there bravery (and level of intoxication) by having a "haggis supper" as well some of the other local delicacies are deep fried pizza or battered hamburgers (salt vinegar and tomato sauce are a must on one of these heart attacks in waiting).Of course there are some other things here that have me wondering "now why don't we have that in Oz" chief among these are "toastie bags" these are a type of plastic bag that one uses to make a toasted sandwich in the toaster the bag doesn't melt you get a great toasted sandwich and no mess !!! (my favorite part ) all you have to do is wash the bag and your ready to go again.

Global Warming

As I said in an earlier post if the movie "the Day After" happened would they notice here ?

The answer is yes at the moment the wind gusts are hitting 100 mph (that's hurricane force) we have had rain (as per usual- the sunshine calendar still has no marks on it) sleet and snow all in one day. The news just came in that there was a fatality when a drivers lorry was blown over !. We are currently being bombarded with documentaries about global warming and how its all our own fault.

well enough of that thought this link might interest the night shift people

Scottish Weather

Not much happening made an agreement with Gail that i would mark every sunny day (by sunny that means no rain at all) on the calender we have over our phone .........so far no marksGrant after consultation with Gail we both feel that unleashing you on the Banks of Scotland is to much like using an atomic bomb to kill a fly (also end result is likely my being deported as a public menace) also http://www.notgoodenough.com.au/ is an Australian site so of little help to me here.

Life in the UK

Firstly thank you to those who emailed and TXT'd over Xmas and New Year (even yours Rory).
Now as to my mobile phone (for those who where wondering )I have decided to use my Australian 3 mobile to TXT to Australia as No. 1 they get there a lot quicker and No. 2 They are about a third of the cost. So am now walking round like a Drug dealer with two mobile phones.

Now will vent about UK Banks I will start by saying I have had a joint bank account with the Abbey National Bank for three years I went in the Day after we arrived (20th Nov) to open a transaction account firstly I was sent away as I had to make an appointment to open an account ....OK that was fine showed up for appointment then waited half an hour while Customer Service Officer (CSO) examined my passport looking for some secret identification mark that was so secret that the person on the other end of the line couldn't tell him what it was only that "its there somewhere" after that we filled in the application to have it declined because I have no credit rating in the UK ! Hello I just wanted to open an account not take out a loan !!!!

I wrote to the Head office to complain to be told that the manager of the branch would contact me within 24 hours that was a month ago ......still waiting its good to know that whether it be Australia or Scotland some things are the same the world over Banks treat people like shite

I really need someone like Grant to sort this for me ....no wait I want to be able to live in this country afterwoulds so scratch that
